KEY COMMITMENTS
All of Nathan’s positions are based in these five fundamental commitments, each intended to address the specific challenges faced by families in Assembly District 51.
For too long small communities in our state have been forced to choose between economic opportunities or environmental protections, maintaining local infrastructure or keeping taxes low, and supporting local businesses or attracting new investment.
Nathan believes that common-sense, research-informed policies can balance these concerns and breathe new life into southwestern Wisconsin.

Rural Wisconsin communities are on a “referendum treadmill” that forces them to choose between regular property tax hikes or school closures. Our state representatives have the ability to change that. They’ve chosen not to.
Nathan will propose a bill to allocate a portion of the unspent state surplus into a permanent, restricted endowment. The principal will remain intact, and the interest will be distributed to struggling rural schools to support operational costs.

Over and over we see jobs depart from our district as family-owned businesses close and large companies open chain stores. This leaves too many hard-working families dependent on corporate interests.
That trend can be reversed. By providing seed funds that make 0% loans available to employees, and offering them first rights for purchasing small businesses and farms from retiring owners, we can revitalize our communities.

As small communities face declining populations, families struggle with the wage trap: their expenses rise with their income, leaving them dependent on every paycheck to survive. This hits the working class hardest.
Nathan proposes a two-year pilot program for Assembly District 51 that will allocate a portion of our state’s tax surplus to provide a per-child stipend to families earning less than $100,000 per year. This will not only restore economic self-sufficiency, but also dignity.

From data centers to zoning restrictions to healthcare licensing barriers, our communities are being stripped of their right to shape their own future. We need to reclaim local sovereignty and give power back to the people.
Nathan calls for the repeal of state preemption laws that strip local village boards of their power, giving rural communities the absolute right to maintain locally appropriate zoning regulations, reject industrial projects, establish local healthcare options, and maintain the right to repair.

Did you know that in Wisconsin, legislators can meet behind closed doors with no public record, and can legally erase their emails? Yet when each party is in power, they never take action to address this lack of transparency.
That must change. We need accountability from our representatives, which is why on day one Nathan will introduce the Sovereign Witness Act: a bill that will end the deletion of records, and require cameras and real-time logging of all hearings, caucuses, and lobbyist meetings via a digital portal available to the public.

Reclaiming Local Sovereignty & Ensuring Transparency
Giant multinational tech companies are rushing into Wisconsin to build massive data centers. While these multi-billion-dollar corporations pocket the profits, our local communities are left to pick up the tab. The giant facilities can drain up to 5 million gallons of water every single day and put an unprecedented strain on our shared electric grid. This corporate energy rush directly drives up monthly utility bills for regular families. Making matters worse, utility companies are abusing state laws to seize private family land against the owner's will, just to build power lines for big tech.
Nathan’s Data Center Sovereignty & Ratepayer Protection Act shields Wisconsin residents and puts local communities back in control. His plan puts an immediate freeze on new data center permits and stops utility companies from forcing ordinary families to pay for corporate infrastructure expansions. The law bans secret, backroom deals between big tech and local officials, and forces tech companies to build their own 100% renewable energy sources on-site. Most importantly, it gives rural towns the final say through a local vote, ensuring you and your neighbors have absolute veto power over these massive projects.

Restoring Rural Schools, Supporting Families & Reclaiming Local Sovereignty
Right now, decisions about how our tax dollars are spent are made by politicians and lobbyists behind closed doors in Madison. This top-down system often leaves rural towns and local public schools struggling for funding, forcing communities to constantly raise local property taxes just to keep neighborhood schools open. Instead of letting people have a say in where their hard-earned money goes, the current political system forces regular families into a cycle of rising costs and fading community services.
Nathan’s Tax Choice Initiative gives the power directly back to Wisconsin taxpayers. His plan introduces a simple checklist right onto your annual state income tax form. It allows you to take up to 5% of the state income tax you already owe and send it directly to a local cause of your choice: options like like funding rural school buildings, supporting local community health programs, or preserving neighborhood conservation lands. This keeps your tax dollars working right in your own community, bypassing special interests to fix local issues first.
